Transparency is important now that so much content is generated by Artificial Intelligence (AI).

This AI policy provides that transparency, so you can trust the words and images I publish.

• I write my own web pages, blog posts and emails.
• These web pages are translated automatically, using AI.
• If I use AI while writing long-form text or to create images, I say so.
• I do occasionally involve AI to help with SEO and social media hashtags and posts. 

Long-form text: web pages, blogs, emails, etc

• These words are mine, except for some automated notifications about your booking.
• I may use AI suggestions for headings, or the the page description in Google.
• I did use AI for help with my blog post about photographing the Northern Lights.

Translations

• The website translations are done automatically, and may use AI. I apologise in advance for any mistakes.
• They are done once, whenever a page is published or changed, and the translation is stored on our web-server.
• The tool I use for this is WPML.
• I use Google Translate to translate messages and emails.

Short form text: social media posts

• I sometimes asked AI for assistance with social media posts, in particular for hashtags.

Images

• I do not use AI generated images (except the one on this page).
• If I do use an AI generated image, I will credit AI, just as I credit other image creators.
• Some tools have AI editing features. I use these, but I never make substantial changes. For example, I do not airbrush out permanent features, but I might extend the sky to make an image taller.

Chat

• If you contact us, you’ll talk to me or Joy who manages the cottage, not an AI bot.

Third party content

• I am not responsible for what other people write about the Lighthouse Keeper’s Cottage, or for the images they publish.  This includes:
  • editorials
  • some content on online travel agents and listing sites
  • social media posts about us
• I am not responsible for third-party material that I re-post

AI and energy use

• AI is the opposite of green. Generative AI requires much more powerful servers and much more computer power than traditional search or good old brain-power, which is another reason for not using it.

I said “I” rather than “we” because I own and run the Lighthouse Keeper’s Cottage and am responsible for the marketing, PR, blog, website, newsletters, and social media.
